OK, so it is sung with tongue firmly in cheek, but at the time this must have been seismic. To get your niave little 60’s mind around these guys trashing their gear and giving youth a rallying cry stronger than even Elvis could muster. I wish I could have been there at the time to really understand quite what this song meant to the world, but even today its influence is still being felt. It is by no means my favourite Who song (either 5:15 or I Can’t Explain, since you asked) but it is certainly their most important.
