There is more than a justification for simply declaring “Love Will Tear Us Apart” as the finest of all post-Punk British singles. When “Love Will Tear Us Apart” came out shortly after Ian Curtis’s suicide, it made Joy Division’s back catalogue seem like listening to an extended suicide note. But whereas hundreds of shoe-gazing indie types have written lyrics expressing similar sentiments, none have ever had the soul and perfect touch of Ian Curtis.
